Something between you has quietly shifted
Couples counselling is a structured, confidential space where both partners can reflect, speak honestly, and begin to understand what’s actually happening between you โ with a therapist trained in the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
“It is never too late to find your way back to each other, as long as both partners have good intentions and are ready to begin reconnecting and be vulnerable.“

WHAT BRINGS COUPLES TO THERAPY
Does any of this sound familiar?
Most couples who reach out aren’t in crisis โ they’re stuck in repeating arguing patterns and feel that the distance between partners has grown so much that neither of them knows how to close it anymore. Have you noticed any of the below scenarios?
- You keep having the same fight without ever resolving it
- You feel more like roommates than partners
- Trust has been broken and you don’t know if it can be rebuilt
- One or both of you shuts down during conflict
- A major life change โ a baby, a move, a loss โ has put pressure on the relationship
- You love each other but can’t seem to connect the way you used to
- You’re not sure whether to stay or go โ and want clarity before deciding.
“Couples counselling isn’t only for relationships in crisis. Coming before things fall apart is one of the most effective things you can do to prevent relationship issues.”

WHAT WE WORK WITH
Common reasons couples come to therapy
Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to worry about it being too small or too big. Just bring what’s happening, and we’ll work through it together.

YOUR THERAPIST
Trained in evidence-based methods that actually work for couples
I’m Elena โ founder of Upsychology, registered clinical counsellor with specialized training in couples therapy. I work with the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) โ two of the most extensively researched approaches for relationships. That means our sessions are guided by methods that have been shown to be highly effective in couples therapy.
I’ve also navigated my own relationship transitions, including separation, divorce, and single parenthood. In my work with couples, I focus on deep emotional experiences and in-the-moment interactions to foster mutual understanding and connection between partners. While often direct, I am also warm and supportive, and I have genuine respect for how hard it is to be vulnerable in front of a partner โ and a therapist.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you reach out
Do both partners have to want to come?
Ideally, yes โ couples therapy works best when both partners are willing to engage, even if one is more hesitant than the other. If your partner isn’t sure yet, starting with a free 15-min call together can help. If only one of you is ready, individual counselling may be a better starting point.
Is this covered by my insurance?
Many extended health plans cover sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). Check your plan’s mental health benefits โ some cover couples sessions, others cover only individual sessions. Direct billing is available with select insurers.
What if we’re on the verge of separation?
That’s one of the most common reasons couples reach out โ and it’s not too late. Therapy at this stage can help you both get clarity, communicate more honestly, and make a decision you can both live with โ whether that’s staying together or separating with less damage.
How many sessions will we need?
It depends on what you’re working on. Some couples notice real change in 4-8 sessions. Others choose to continue longer. There’s no minimum commitment โ you’re both in charge of that decision.
Can we attend from different locations?
Yes – since all sessions are virtual, each partner can join from a separate location if needed โ different rooms at home, or different cities entirely. As long as both of you are in Canada, it works.
What if we’re not a good fit?
Elena will tell you honestly if she’s not the right therapist for what you need โ and she’ll help you find someone who is. Finding the right fit matters more than staying with the wrong one.
