We love questions. If you don’t find your answer, please feel free to contact us directly.
How much does counselling cost?
Our counselling sessions with registered counsellors (RCC or CCC) and registered psychologists start at $179/per 50-minute session. We also have pre-registered counsellors who offer low-cost sessions at $79/per 50-minute session (these are not covered by insurance).
Do you offer direct billing?
Yes, we do. Please see the list of insurers for direct billing here. If you do not find your insurance provider in the list, you will have to submit your invoice directly to your insurance for reimbursement.
Do you offer in-person counselling?
No, we offer online counselling only. We’ve chosen to work virtually to make therapy more accessible and help reduce the stress of preparation, commuting or rushing to appointments. Many clients find that meeting from a familiar, comfortable space helps them feel more at ease and open during sessions. All you need is a safe and private space, a phone or computer with a camera (optional), and a stable Internet connection. While online counselling isn’t the right fit for everyone, we’re always happy to help you explore which kind of support feels best for you.
How long does each session last?
We offer 50-minute sessions, as this format is considered the most optimal in psychotherapy. The counselling process requires mental energy and we want to make sure our clients remain focused and avoid becoming overwhelmed so they can continue their day after the counselling session.
How do I prepare for the first session?
In accordance with ethical guidelines, we maintain the highest standards of privacy and confidentiality. Please set up in a comfortable, safe, private space with a computer, laptop, or phone and a stable Internet connection. You can also bring your favourite cup with a drink of your choice, along with a piece of paper for notes. The first session is a great opportunity to get to know your counsellor and ask questions or address concerns about the process.
Do you work with children and teenagers?
Counselling for children and teenagers always begins with meeting their parent(s). Once we identify and explore the root causes of the child/teen’s concerns, we begin by supporting the parent(s) utilizing a family systems approach. In the meantime, we can provide a referral to a specialist trained in age-appropriate, culturally adapted treatment for your child.
How many counselling sessions do I need?
As each situation is unique, the length of counselling depends on several factors, including the frequency of sessions (weekly vs. monthly), the complexity of the client’s situation (acute crisis vs. discomfort), the client’s readiness for change, and the desired depth of counselling. The majority of our clients notice a positive shift after the first session, and many cases do not require more than 5-6 sessions. While some clients are fully satisfied with a short-term solution-focused therapy, others choose long-term therapy for a more in-depth transformation.
I am interested in couples counselling, but my partner is not interested.
For couples/family psychotherapy, it is important that both partners are ready and open to counselling. If your partner is not ready, you can start individual counselling to address your personal concerns, understand your role in your relationship patterns, and build skills for a healthier, stronger connection.
How do I choose the right counsellor?
If, after reading the bios of our counsellors, you are still not sure, please feel free to fill out our Intake Form, and the system will find the best match based on your answers. Along with training and experience, pay attention to how you feel after the first few sessions – whether you feel heard, respected, and safe to be yourself. Trust matters, and it’s okay to take your time finding it. The right counsellor is someone you feel comfortable with and supported by. You are more than welcome to schedule sessions with different therapists and choose the one that resonates most with you.
